High-protein overnight oats with Greek yogurt, chia seeds, and berries

You do not need protein powder to make a more filling bowl of overnight oats. Greek yogurt, milk, oats, and chia seeds all contribute protein while keeping the texture creamy and familiar.

Where the protein comes from

The exact amount depends on the brands and milk you use, so treat any nutrition estimate as approximate. Greek yogurt usually contributes the largest share, while milk, oats, and chia seeds add more.

Best texture tips

  • Use rolled oats rather than quick oats for more texture.
  • Stir very well before chilling.
  • Add extra milk in the morning if the oats become too thick.
  • Add crunchy toppings just before serving.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1 servings
Course: Breakfast

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats about 45 g
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt about 120 g
  • 1/2 cup milk 120 ml
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds about 12 g
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup 5 ml, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 2.5 ml
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup berries or chopped fruit about 75 g, for serving

Method

  1. Add the oats, Greek yogurt, milk, chia seeds, sweetener if using, vanilla, and salt to a jar or container.
  2. Stir thoroughly so there are no dry pockets of oats or chia seeds.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  4. Stir before serving and add a splash of milk if you want a looser texture.
  5. Top with berries or chopped fruit and serve cold.

Easy flavor ideas

Try cinnamon and apple, berries and vanilla, banana and peanut butter, or cocoa and sliced banana. Keep the base the same and change the toppings so breakfast does not feel repetitive.

Storage

Keep overnight oats covered in the refrigerator and use normal food-safety judgment for the dairy products and fruit you use.
